Academy News and Science Tidbits

Recent Academy News

April, 2025

A number of our sections (including Entomology, Geology, Herpetology, Ichthyology) were present at the Earth Day celebrations at Forest Park Nature Center in Peoria Heights, IL. Our entomology section website has a number of photographs of the event. They presented this as part of their outreach activities.

We held our 2025 banquet on April 18, 2025 at Barrack’s Hospitality Group Banquet Center in Peoria, IL. Sheldon Schafer was our guest speaker. He spoke on the topic of archaeoastronomy [the study of the astronomical knowledge of prehistoric cultures, based on inferences from their archaeological remains.].

Science Tidbits

We frequently encounter articles and news regarding science. We thought that we would begin sharing these articles (with a little commentary). Hence, the name – science tidbits. We will try to arrange these by date (with the most current on top).

We enjoy reading your comments. This is the easiest way for us to know we are supplying information you want. Make certain you click on any of the linked articles (usually with a title of Week of…). Once you have the specific post open, you should see a comment area near the bottom.
